Background of valve overlay welding

Scratches, erosion, and corrosion can all damage the valve sealing surface. The composition and metal structure of sealing materials, surface treatment process, hardness and hardness difference, specific pressure and conformity, and many other factors can all affect the quality of valve sealing surfaces.

Each type of valve opens and closes under different operating parameters, so different temperatures, pressures, and media have different requirements for the sealing surface material of the valve. A layer of special performance sheet metal is deposited on the sealing surface of the valve to improve the comprehensive performance of the valve sealing surface, including scratch resistance, corrosion resistance, erosion resistance, and high temperature resistance. This not only reduces costs but also improves the service life of the wide door.



Valve Vulnerability Solution

The sealing surface of steel valves is generally manufactured using the welding method. The materials used for valve overlay welding are divided into four categories according to alloy types, namely drill based alloys, nickel based alloys, iron-based alloys, and copper based alloys. These alloy materials are made into welding rods, welding wires (including flux cored welding wires), welding fluxes (including transition alloy type welding fluxes), and alloy powders, which are deposited using methods such as manual arc welding, oxygen acetylene flame welding, tungsten inert gas arc welding, submerged arc automatic welding, and plasma arc welding. Here, we mainly introduce the plasma cladding process.



Advantages of plasma cladding for valves

Plasma overlay welding has many advantages compared to other surface overlay welding methods due to its use of plasma as a heat source and alloy powder as filler metal:

(1) Fast melting speed and high productivity.

(2) Controllable melting depth and low dilution rate.

(3) The welding surface is flat and smooth, with high density, and can achieve a one-time completion of 0.5-5mm welding surface

(4) Good process stability, high quality spray welding layer, can continuously obtain stable welding layer for a long time, and there are no welding quality problems such as pores and sand holes on the welding surface.

(5) The preparation of alloy powder is simple, with a wide range of materials used. Powder welding materials such as diamond based, nickel based, iron based, copper based, etc. can be selected, and the formula can be directly formulated according to the working conditions.


(6) Special aircraft, robots, etc. can be equipped according to needs, making it easy to achieve automation and reducing labor intensity
