How does the pressure reducing valve work

How does the pressure reducing valve work

Working principle of pressure reducing valve

1) From the perspective of fluid mechanics, a pressure reducing valve is a throttling element that can change local resistance, that is, by changing the throttling area, the flow rate and fluid kinetic energy change, causing different pressure losses, and thus achieving the purpose of pressure reduction. It relies on the adjustment of the control and adjustment system to balance the fluctuation of the pressure behind the valve with the spring force, keeping the pressure behind the valve constant within a certain error range.
2) A pressure reducing valve can reduce the high liquid pressure in the front pipeline to the level required in the back pipeline, and its transmission medium is mainly water. Pressure reducing valves are widely used in high-rise buildings, areas with high water pressure in urban water supply networks, mines, and other occasions to ensure that each water point in the water supply system receives appropriate service water pressure and flow. Considering that the leakage rate and waste degree of water are almost proportional to the water pressure of the water supply system, the pressure reducing valve has the potential to improve the operating conditions of the system and save water. According to statistics, its water-saving effect is about 30%.
3) The working principle of a pressure reducing valve is to adjust the inlet pressure to a certain required outlet pressure, and rely on the energy of the medium itself to automatically maintain stable outlet pressure.

What are the precautions for installing a pressure reducing valve

1) For the convenience of operation and maintenance, pressure reducing valves generally need to be installed upright on horizontal pipelines. When installing the pressure reducing valve, it is necessary to strictly follow the direction of the arrow on the valve body and maintain consistency with the direction of fluid flow. If the water quality is not clean and contains some impurities, a filter must be installed at the upstream inlet of the pressure reducing valve to avoid affecting its normal operation.
2) To prevent overpressure after the valve, a pressure reducing valve should be installed at a distance of no less than 4 meters from the valve outlet. The pressure reducing valve plays a certain check role in the pipeline. In order to prevent the harm of water hammer, a small expansion water tank can also be installed to prevent damage to the pipeline and valves. The filter must be installed in front of the inlet pipe of the pressure reducing valve, and the expansion water tank must be installed after the outlet pipe of the pressure reducing valve.
3) If you need to install a pressure reducing valve in a hot water system, you must install a check valve between the pressure reducing valve and the expansion tank. This not only allows the expansion tank to absorb the increased volume of water due to thermal expansion, but also prevents the backflow of hot water or pressure fluctuations from affecting the pressure reducing valve, ensuring its long-term normal operation.
